I'm one of those people that has to buy their cds, brand spanking new, album art, jewel case, flawless cd. It's a beautiful process. The taking 15 minutes just to try and get the plastic wrap off, and then attempting to get the stupid tape off the top. But it just adds to the anticipation. Once you finally get that tape off, open the bad boy up and take a deep, appreciative smell of new cd-ness you get some kind of high. It's a high like no other... It's a hoplessly romantic love between cd and cd owner, it's appreciated, it's payed for with hard earned cash from a nearly broke college student. What is love? This, this is love. I prefer to buy my cds off of artist websites. You never know, you might get a bumber sticker, or a suprise autographed poster, or sticker, something of the sort when you do it this way. I also like to buy from record stores and those tiny music shops that only "cool" people with "real" music tastes hang out at. But thats just for show. On this particularly dreary day, I was driving home from work and feeling like splurging on a few albums. Pit stop. Now. Best Buy. Yes Please. So I'm in Best Buy looking helplessly at hundreds of albums, flipping through my mental list of "albums to buy". Which one? There's a rediculous amount to choose from and they actually have a decent collection. Genre? I don't know, just pick one. Then, there, glistening in unfathomable beauty, lay Arcade Fire's Neon Bible. I already had their EP and Funeral and their basically one of my favorite bands. Why not? I was appall
ed at myself that I had only heard one of the songs from the album previously. So I bought it. Ok, I can't even describe to you the sheer joy experienced while listening to this album. First of all, the album art is spectacular. It's dark, but it's one of those album art booklets that you want to read and analyze and that you would specify as possibly being "weird". The album itself is, in my opinion, a masterpiece. Epic. There's so much feeling, talent, sweat, and greatness involved. I don't even want to go into analyzing the lyrics and the meaning of it all. Sure it interests me, but sometimes it can get a little boring and onesided and everyone has a different opinion. All I want you to do is listen to it. Please. So far, it has been the best album I have ever heard in my life. It is definately my favorite and I have never, ever gotten tired of it. Ever.
